Palermo... street markets... and Kovacs Pizzeria... ?

One of the many charms of Palermo is its variety of lively street markets.  We walked through two of them... Mercato delle Pulci (market of fleas), and Mercato di Capo (one of the fruit, veggie and seafood markets).  The antiques and flea market was an entire street lined with shops, many of which had stuff on tables outside.  We were really surprised to see large trees growing inside the shops.  It seems like the tin buildings were built around the trees...
Looking for some fleas...

A whole street of fleas...
A giant tree in his shop...

I like those tiles...

The Mercato di Capo, near Teatro Massimo, is a lively street market with a vast variety of fruits, vegetables, seafood, meats, etc.  The street stalls are in front of actual shops, and if you can't find it here it probably doesn't exist.  Vendors call out their specialties in Sicilian, all very colorful.
Wonderful quality...

Fresh seafood... some things still moving... !
There are small street markets throughout the city selling all kinds of things...

In the upscale section of Palermo, we came across this store window display.  Hats with the NY Yankees logo and Brooklyn logo... 35 euros... !  Really... ?

And we found these three signs with English words interesting... in Palermo, Sicily... ?

But by far the best discovery of our walking tour was the Kovacs Pizzeria and Birreria.  Really, you can't make this stuff up!  It was only a couple of blocks from our hotel, and we did a double-take when we saw it.  So where else could we enjoy our last dinner in Sicily, but at the Kovacs Pizzeria!  We talked with the owner's wife for quite a while, then had a delicious meal... A few of the placemats are coming home with us...

We arrived back at Palazzo Pantaleo tired but happy.  What a wonderful eight weeks in Sicily, and an equally wonderful last dinner.  We would do our final packing for the flight to Barcelona the next day.  But Sicily had other ideas, she wasn't letting go of us that easily.  There was more chaos to follow...
