A drive to a museum becomes an adventure of its own...

We drove the 25 km, or 15 miles, from Castelbuono to Collesano to see the small Targa Florio Museum.  You would not expect the drive to become an adventure in itself, but this is Sicily, so you should pretty much expect the unexpected...

The first clue that there might be trouble ahead was when we saw this sign as we were leaving Castelbuono...
Road closed to traffic...
It was basically telling us the road was officially closed about 18 km ahead.  Did that stop us... No!   We forged ahead!  The road twisted majestically through the Madonie mountains and national park...
Around every bend there was either another stunning view, or a warning for a failing road...

About halfway between Castelbuono and Collesano was the cute-as-a-button village of Isnello, nestled in a valley below snow-capped mountains...

A few km from Collesano we reached the problem area that the initial sign had warned us about.  This wasn't a failing road, it was a failed road.  It looked like the aftermath of a small earthquake.  A man standing there warned us not to cross it, then showed us how... !

This is on the way back to Castelbuono... if in doubt, follow a white van!
We finally reached Collesano and visited the museum, which we'll cover in another post.  We did see a job opportunity for Gary Mack, should the school bus thing not work out...

The ride back to Castelbuono was just as amazing... then we rounded a bend, and came face to face with a herd of cattle in the road...

This one bumped my mirror   !

The museum was excellent, the ride incredible... !
