Hello Dali' !!

"Where, if not my own city, should the most extravagant and solid examples of my art remain...where else ?"  Salvador Dali' decided to create his museum in his home town of Figueres.  He is known primarily for his work in Surrealism, but as his museum attests, he was a master in the fields of Realism, Cubism, sculpture, and jewelry-making.   He was as eccentric and theatrical as he was talented. After he married his wife Gala, in 1934, he started signing the majority of his works with her name as well as his own...she was his inspiration and the love of his life.  He died in 1989, leaving a treasure trove of art, beauty, and whimsy for us all to admire, be amused by, and puzzle over.

As you wander through the museum, Dali' wanted you to feel that you were a part of the art installation...

quite a face !

There was an entire room that Dali' created to show what his home was like...strange !

a bed only Dali' could love...
some of his famous "melting watches" over the bed

The museum is very large...very interesting...very, very odd !
yikes !

from his Cubist period

In a final tribute to himself, he painted a take-off on the Sistine Chapel with Gala and himself as Adam and Eve...why not ?  The entire ceiling in this large room is hand painted by Dali'...

if you look very closely, you can just make out his large mustache...

In a separate part of the gallery is some of the jewelry that Dali' created...

The jewelry was beautifully crafted and the entire museum is an experience that is difficult to explain.  There is no doubt that Dali' was a genius...especially in his own mind !
