Baroque and Beautiful Ragusa....

Ragusa is made up of two main parts, the ancient Ragusa Ibla and the somewhat newer but still old Ragusa Superiore.  They each occupy a hilltop setting, with a steep valley in between, connected only by a narrow, twisty road and a couple of steep, stone stairways.  Our apartment is on the upward slope of Superiore, offering amazing views of Ibla.  These two photos were taken from the terrace in front of our apartment, one in the morning, the other at night...

The entire area was wiped out in a 1693 earthquake and was rebuilt in the Baroque style, which was in vogue at the time.  Ragusa Ibla is a real treat, with winding lanes, jumbled buildings, a beautiful and free public garden, and fifty churches... dominated by the Duomo di San Giorgio (Cathedral of St. George)...

In addition to all this, Ragusa Ibla has not one, but two Michelin star restaurants.  We haven't tried either, may have to begin a Kickstarter campaign to finance...
