We took a short trip to two of our favorite small hill towns in Sicily...Savoca and Forza d'Agro'...they are both featured in scenes from the Godfather movies, and are as picturesque as can be.
In Savoca, if you are fortunate enough to be there at noon, you will find yourselves enchanted by the sounds of Ave Maria playing from the
Chiesa di Santa Lucia. This is the church where Michael Corleone married Apolonia in the movie. To hear Ave Maria echoing through the valleys and mountains is truly amazing...
| Who is that beside the sculpture of Francis Ford Coppola ? A young Marlon Brando perhaps ?? |
| This is the bar where Al Pacino asks Apolonia's father for her hand in marriage... |
The roads twist and turn - as usual - but the drive is worth the effort. These small towns look as if time has stood still and left them untouched.
| a view from Forza d'Agro'...a picture postcard ! |
| a small Christmas scene still on view... |
| A watchtower on the hill in the distance... |
| in the far distance, you can just make out the coastline of Calabria in mainland Italy... |
This church in Forza d'Agro' was in scenes from Godfather II...
We felt as if we really were in a scene from a movie...so lovely and peaceful !
