Logroño and "The Way"

If you have ever seen the movie "The Way" starring Martin Sheen, you know about the walk, or Camino, that many pilgrims take across Spain.  There are several routes that follow the supposed path of St. James - Santiago in Spanish - but they all end in Santiago de Compostela and most go through Logroño.  Hikers travel over 500 miles and are welcomed in various stops along the way.  The parting phrase is buon camino, or good walk.  The signs are easy to find...

We had a wonderful time in Logroño... It is pedestrian friendly and has many parks, public squares, and pedestrian only streets... the city is well worth a visit and one of the best stops we made in Spain...

beautiful church...

so ornate !
The gardens and green spaces are lovely...and everything is so clean and well maintained !
Hikers on the Camino cross this bridge to enter Logroño...

Logroño has an important stork colony...

a happy bird !

There is artwork and sculpture everywhere...Spaniards seem to love their art and include it in every aspect of life...even in the roundabouts...

you can read the words in the mirrored reflection...

"the important thing is to not stop asking questions" ...Einstein

childrens' park with interactive art...each sculpture plays music !

one of the many roundabouts...complete with artwork

street art...

does that look like "Kovacs" art ???

The markets are so colorful ...

We were amazed at the beauty of the city...it is full of lively tapas bars, and people party well into the night...but you would never know there had been a big fiesta by the time you get up the next morning...

the streets are hosed down every day !

What a great time in Logroño...we were a couple of happy hikers !
